Malaysia’s National Energy Council Approves Natural Gas Roadmap to Boost Energy Security and Transition to Low-Carbon Economy

On November 12, 2025, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the National Energy Council (MTN) approved the sustainable strategies outlined in the Natural Gas Roadmap (NGR), aimed at safeguarding energy security and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.

He identified key focus areas including increasing the share of renewable energy in the power generation mix to 35% by 2030, expanding open grid access, and intensifying investment in green and new energy technologies, in alignment with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to strengthen the national energy system’s innovation, competitiveness and inclusiveness.

The Council also approved electricity demand-supply projections for data centres, based on latest input from the Energy Commission, and agreed to develop a nationwide e-mobility service platform integrating EV charging station operations.

At FOZL Group, we view this roadmap approval as a strong signal of Malaysia’s commitment to green energy transformation, and a timely window for businesses in EVs, data centres, renewables and energy infrastructure to position themselves. With our presence across Singapore, Malaysia, China, Germany and Indonesia, FOZL is ready to support companies in green-energy investment, cross-border collaboration and compliance strategy.
