Malaysia is committed to enhancing healthcare standards and providing world-class medical products and technologies. Our medical device industry produces high-value-added and technologically advanced products such as pacemakers, stents, orthopedic implants, electronic medical, therapeutic and monitoring equipment.
Malaysia continues to develop as a manufacturing hub for medical devices in the region. We have over 200 manufacturers, half of which are involved in the production of medical gloves. Over 30 multinational companies producing high-value-added medical devices have chosen Malaysia as an offshore location for their manufacturing operations, such as Abbott, B. Braun Medical, Boston Scientific, BD, Tecomet, Teleflex, Resmed, Ciba Vision, Ambu, Toshiba Medical Systems and Haemonetics.
Smith & Nephew and Dexcom have also joined the ranks, establishing their manufacturing plants in Malaysia. Second and third-tier manufacturers of medical device components increase opportunities for local suppliers to integrate into the industry's global supply chain.
We continuously encourage companies to prioritize productivity, accelerate automation and innovation, conduct more R&D and implement best practices. Malaysia has the potential to be a medical device hub, with a strong supporting industry including sterilization services, aseptic medical packaging and precision engineering.
