Chemicals and Chemical Products

Malaysia's abundant natural resources are an advantage for the country's chemical and chemical products industry. This industry is a major contributor to the manufacturing sector, with petrochemicals and oil-based chemicals being the main products.

Chemical and chemical products are commonly used as raw materials in the manufacturing of various end products such as electrical and electronic goods, plastic products, agriculture, automotive, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, and construction materials.

The chemical and chemical products industry still has significant room for growth, development, and improvement.

To reach new heights, we encourage chemical and chemical products manufacturers to leverage the entire chemical ecosystem to enhance innovation efficiency and explore new markets. Transition from purely product sales to providing innovative solutions to foster a more advanced and environmentally sustainable industry.

Looking ahead, Malaysia is seeking to enter new segments within the specialty chemicals field. Industry players have begun to explore the possibility of producing specialty chemicals directly from crude oil using Crude Oil to Chemicals (COTC) technology. Non-fuel products such as catalysts, aromatics, petroleum solvents (naphtha), waxes, and white oils, etc., have huge market potential waiting to be tapped. These products can be used as additives across various industries such as food and beverage, construction, and automotive. Another area for development lies in the reformulation of marketing and supply chain management policies to prepare the industry for further diversification of raw material sources and markets. This will allow industry players to choose from different suppliers and target markets, giving them greater flexibility and freedom in doing business.
